Mom and daughter weekend

Last Friday Zoe and I boarded a train to Frankfurt, Germany for the weekend. We were both really excited because we had obviously never done anything like this before! The reason we were going to Frankfurt is because Zoe's kindergarten teacher from Milwaukee German Immersion School was in Frankfurt and we were planning on meeting her there.

It was such a fun weekend! The weather was really hot and that was a bit tough the 2nd night because the hotel had no air conditioning! Gotta love Europe!!! Friday night Zoe and I got in about 7:30 pm and we walked around for a bit and had an ice cream. The next morning we had breakfast at the hotel and then headed out to find the opera house. That was easy enough and we discovered there was a festival going on in front of the opera house! We also stopped at a Starbucks and found a great book store were we bought Pia and Alena some books in German and Sam a DVD (Wallace and Grommit). Everything was on clearance....I'm still a bargain hunter!!!

We met Frau Bay (Stephanie) and her mom back at the hotel around 12:30 pm. They dropped their bags off in our room and then we headed back in the same direction and had lunch at the festival. Zoe and I had bratwurst and pretzels (the big ones). We then went to a shopping center called the Galleria and went to the top floor which has an outdoor deck that gave us a great view of the city. Stephanie's mom was pretty tired so we walked her back to the hotel and the three of us headed back out in the direction of the river. We wanted to see the "Old Town" It was nice because Stephanie knew a little of the history and she speaks German obviously! We then discovered that the finish line of the IronMan was right there (the race was on Sunday). It was really crowded and it was also hard to really get a feel for the area because of all the extra tents and vendors set up.

We shared a nice dinner together and we all had a rough night sleeping in the heat. Sunday morning we shared breakfast together again at the hotel (gotta love the free buffet) and then had to say our goodbyes. It was so nice to spend the time with them. Zoe and I weren't leaving until 2:00 pm so we went to a Kinder Museum. It was fun and very hands-on, but a little tough because everything was in German!

The train ride home was a little crazy as I got us off at the wrong stop in Basel. Who knew there was a Basel, Germany and a Basel, Switzerland?!? Duh...it took us an extra hour to get home!
