Anyway.....last Monday (it was a holiday here) we went to Lyon, France for the day. Dan had been there with the kids and his mom last spring, but it was my first time. Lyon is a very beautiful city. Two of the highlights of our trip had nothing to do with the actual city though...
1. We went to a nice place for lunch. This is something we almost NEVER do because of the length of time it takes to be served. Dan had actually eaten here once before with the Sales Team from work. The kids had hamburgers. There was actually a "kids menu".....We were not at all surprised that the hamburger did not come with a bun. However, when the kids cut into their hamburgers we were in for a bit of a shock. To say the burger was "rare" would be an understatement. More like raw. How they managed to get the outside brown and the inside so completely looking like it just came out of the grinder is beyond me. Sam actually ate it and Zoe ate the "crust". A very French experience.
2. The second adventure happened on the funicular. This is a train that takes you up a steep incline. When we took the funicular down Sam and Zoe got on without waiting for us and the train took off. We were all a bit panicked, but there really wasn't anywhere for the kids to go but down. We met them at the bottom and we had a talk about waiting until we are all together before boarding trains, buses, metros.....We put the "fun" in funicular!
