We just couldn't stay put!!!! Two weekends ago, just before our big packing/moving week we decided to pick up the kids from school at noon on Friday and head to the northern part of Switzerland for one last adventure! We spent two nights at the youth hostel in Stein am Rhein. It turned out to be an amazing weekend!
Stein am Rhein is a storybook town. The pedestrian street is amazing. Most of the building have frescos painted on the outsides of the building and everything is restored to perfection. We were also lucky because their big annual market was on Saturday. There was also a tent setup for fish-fries....which we ended up doing for dinner both Friday and Saturday nights!
On Saturday we took a boat ride up the Rhein River to the town of Schaffhausen. The weather didn't cooperate that day, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway. However, by the time we got back to Stein am Rhein that evening the weather had cleared and we had an enjoyable evening.
Sunday we drove to the Rheinfalls. The largest waterfall in Europe. WOW! With the snow melting on the mountains the falls were really strong. It was amazing how close we could get to them. The kids were amazed and really enjoyed themselves. It was a great way to end our exploration of this beautiful country.
