So the day in Murten wasn't enough...we had to stop at "one more place" before heading home. The next town over, Avenches, has in the middle of a farm field ancient Roman ruins dating back to the 2nd century AD. We climbed around a Roman theatre, gazed at two remaining pillars from a temple, and looked down a huge amphitheatre.
It was crazy watching the kids climb around and think what it must have been like there in it's glory. The kids don't even realize the history they are experiencing. We had some super whiney kids though by the end of this and we had to head home. Sam, Ben, and I all fell asleep on the drive home!
