Hello everyone, I'm sure this isn't going to be as entertaining as Jen's blog but I'll try. For those of you who don't know us, we are Jen's mom and dad from Milwaukee. We arrived on Friday morning to a very warm welcome and have been having a great time since. It has been more than wonderful spending time with the kids. They are keeping us busy going to the park everyday and going for walks along the lakefront. It is so beautiful here and easy to get around. Zoe knows her way around town and has taken us to the market on the pedestrian walk on Saturday morning and the classic car show along the lakefront. The mountains are now covered
with snow and are so awesome to look at. We can see why the Elko's are so excited to live here.
The trees are in fall splendor and when the leaves come down they will have a beautiful view of the lake and mountains from their living room and balcony. How great will that be to pass the winter months.
Today, Sunday, Dan planned a wonderful day for all of us. We took the train to Montreux where we boarded the "Goldenpass Panoramic" train to Gruyeres. Wow, what an experience. The train passed through the most magnificent scenery along Lake Geneva (Lac Leman) and through the mountains and along the many vineyards. Lots of tunnels, curves and valleys. I have no idea how many picutres I took but lets say its probably in the hundreds. When we arrived we walked up a beautiful steep path to the Chateau de Gruyeres. The village square was exciting to walk around and the views were beyond words. We toured the Castle of Gruyeres which dates back to the 11 to 16 Century. How many times can I use the same words to describe the experience but again I can only say awesome. There wasn't a cloud in the sky today and you could see for many miles. It was also very warm. The kids are great little tourists and love the adventure and learning new things. They really take an interest in everything and ask lots of questions. We had lunch in the village square. The cheese fondue was as good as Jen and Dan told us it would it and the wine we shared went down well. The kids loved their pizza (they are not into the fondue) as Zoe proclaimed. Little Ben is "into everything", the child loves to eat and will eat anything. He just smiles and keeps shoveling it in. He has mastered the use of the fork and it is so cute to watch him eat. On the way back home when it was time to transfer trains in Montreux everyone was still up for more so we headed for the Lakefront walkway and joined the hundreds of people out on a beautiful Sunday afternoon stroll.
We shared a bag of hot roasted chestnuts that were for sale in numerous areas. It seemed to be the thing to do, they were different and they kind of grew on you after a couple ,but lets say it was probably the first and last time we eat them. We got back to the apartment after 6 pm. We left at 9 am this morning so needless to say we are all a little tired. The kids went to sleep shortly after a light easy dinner tonight and I think we are going to bed soon ourselves. We have only been here 3 days and have already seen and done so much, looking forward to more adventures and spending time with the Elko family. We can't get enough of these kids, they are so much fun to be around.
