Florence, Italy

Florence....beautiful city dripping with art. Not so interesting if you are a five year old boy. Lucky there was plenty of gelato to distract our children! I think Zoe did appreciate the art of Florence though. She had read the Magic Tree House book, "Monday with a Mad Genius" and was very interested in Leonardo da Vinci and looking at frescos. Sometimes I have to remind myself that she's only eight!

We of course did the highlights: The Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Basilica di Santa Maria Novella, Ponte Vecchio, and the Boboli Gardens. My only regret is that we didn't take the kids to see "the" David. They only got to see the replica in the Piazza, however, they were still impressed. Although Sam was more intrigued with the statue of Jason holding Medusa's head. Go figure.

The Boboli Gardens were a great place for the kids to run around and it also offers some of the best views of the city. We also had to find the statue of "the fat naked guy sitting on the turtle"...always a crowd pleaser!!

Dan always likes to walk down streets that are off the beaten path too. By doing this we got to watch a woman make violins and walk inside a gallery displaying chandeliers and we also found an awesome pizzaria, "the Gusto"....we had our best lunch there!
